Many commercial gadgets use metal-oxide semiconductor (MOX) sensors that only calculate an estimated carbon dioxide reading (eCO2) based on volatile organic compounds. A scientific-grade NDIR sensor measures direct infrared light absorption at 4.26 µm wavelength to count actual CO2 molecules with laboratory fidelity.
